NOTICE: Your Efforts Are Helping — Please Keep Reducing Water Use
We’ve already seen progress compared to last weekend, and our systems are functioning as they should without being overloaded.
But with more rain in the forecast, it’s important that we keep this up! Please continue limiting non-essential water use where possible so we can help reduce pressure on the regional drainage and wastewater systems.
How you can keep helping:
- Delay laundry and dishwasher use
- Keep showers shorter where possible
- Avoid unnecessary indoor water use
- Make sure sump pumps and downspouts are working properly and directing water away from your home
Together, we can keep the system working well and help our community through the wet weather.
More information
What Morinville is doing:
Morinville has proactively pumped down stormwater management facilities to maximize available storage capacity ahead of the storm. Crews are continuing this work throughout the event.
Morinville is also continuing efforts to create additional capacity within the regional sanitary system, including work with ARROW Utilities to pump from the lagoon into the snowmelt facility. Several known infiltration points that contributed to issues during the previous rainfall event have also been addressed.
What residents may notice:
During significant rainfall, residents may see water in curb lines, storm ponds filling quickly, and ditch networks running full. Some localized overtopping may occur, primarily in the industrial area. These are expected conditions during a major rainfall event and indicate the storm system is working as designed.
How residents can help:
Residents are asked to reduce non-essential water use during the rainfall event by delaying laundry and dishwasher use, limiting showers and baths where possible, and avoiding unnecessary indoor water use.
Monitoring and response:
Morinville employees will be monitoring both the stormwater and sanitary systems throughout the weekend and will respond as needed. Additional updates will be provided if conditions change.
Reducing water use now will help lessen pressure on the system while crews continue to monitor conditions and respond to impacts from the storm.
